This post will be as quick as it was to make this coat rack. We always enter the house through "the side" door, so there is a lot of foot traffic in our "sunroom" where this door is located and as you can imagine, that is where you can find the pile of shoes and easy to grab coats. Oh wait.. there is no where to put the coats. As you can see, this is where my idea started.
First I measured how long I wanted the base, which in my case was the entire space between the two frames of crown molding. Then I went to Home Depot and shopped around the lumber and got the piece of wood cut to my needed width. While I was there I picked up some wood stain ( have you guys picked up on the fact that I love to paint everything!). AND you guessed it - I stained the wood black!
Quick Tip: Staining wood is not like typical paint. It very oily. A little will go a long way. Apply pain to the wood with a sponge brush, (or honestly, you can use a papertowel).
Once the paint is dried we ( my dad and I) located the studs behind the wall with a stud finder and marks on wood where we would be screwing the nails. NOTE: This is not at the same spot as where the hooks were going!
GREAT! Now you have a piece of wood screwed into your wall, lovely. Next mark out where you want your hooks to be. You guessed it, screw them on. VIOLA - DONE!! These are the hooks I bought!
